Project Title:
“Constructing Compliance in the Foreign Anti-Bribery Regime.”
Project Abstract:
My dissertation examines an important component of the growing global anti-corruption movement: the criminalization of foreign bribery in international business. In the past two decades, many states have ratified international treaties that require them to establish criminal offences prohibiting the bribery of foreign public officials. My project seeks to understand how states have implemented these international obligations and how states have come to adopt divergent enforcement practices. Focusing on four countries, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, the dissertation explains varying enforcement practices as an interaction between state socialization and the domestic socio-legal context.
