Global Health Essentials Course
Project Abstract: 
This project supports the Weill Cornell Global Emergency Medicine Program’s Global Health Essentials Course (GHEC). The Global EM Program is committed to advancing the science and practice of emergency response and disaster preparedness through capacity building, research, and clinical service. GHEC is an intensive two-¬‐week educational program aimed at students and health care providers engaged in international work. Addressing the most pressing challenges in global health, GHEC covers a wide range of topics including infectious diseases, non-¬‐communicable diseases, complex humanitarian emergencies, programming, policy, financing, global health institutions, and field research methodology. GHEC is attended by medical and public health students, physicians, nurses, mid-¬‐level providers, administrators, and field practitioners from the US and abroad. Recent courses have been attended by delegates from Bangladesh, Canada, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Palestine, Rwanda, Thailand, and the UK. GHEC faculty are drawn from leading universities around the world, major global health institutions, and governmental and inter-¬‐governmental agencies, including experts from Cornell, Harvard, Yale, McGill, UCLA, Columbia universities, Clinton Health Access Initiative, BRAC, amfAR, Doctors Without Borders, International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, USAID, the White House Office of Management and Budget, the UN, WHO, and the World Bank.
