Project Title:
Conference on the Comparative Study of Legislative Politics
Project Abstract:
The objective of the conference on the comparative study of legislative politics is to bring together a small but diverse group of scholars conducting innovative research on the topic, in order to foster greater communication and collaboration across a growing body of literature that largely remains compartmentalized by country or region. The conference will be organized around the following themes: the historical development of modern legislative institutions, and how different developmental trajectories shape contemporary politics; assessing the performance of legislatures in advanced democracies; and examining whether recent methodological advances might enable more genuinely comparative research that does not flatten crucially important national specificity. The intended outcome of the conference will be an ongoing series of conference panels and collaborative projects intended to foster more systematic research on this topic.
