Project Title:
Linking North American Migratory Birds with their Central American Wintering Grounds
Project Abstract:
I propose to use light-level geolocator technology to link the breeding and wintering grounds of two migratory birds of conservation concern: the Golden-winged Warbler and Blue-winged Warbler. Conservation efforts for these species have historically focused on breeding grounds issues in North America, despite the fact that the birds spend up to eight months of each year in Central America. Geolocator technology offers a new opportunity to precisely link breeding and wintering populations. The information received through this effort will increase the efficiency of conservation action undertaken on behalf of these declining species and foster new conservation partnerships across borders.
