Project Title:
Exploring Techniques to Measure Gender Attitudes and Equality in india: Interviews with Gender Research Specialists in India
Project Abstract:
For my Master's thesis, I intend to measure gender related attitudes among couples to see if it plays a predictive role in desiring a son or daughter or being neutral towards the sex of the next child. I hypoethesize that couples who show favorable gender attitudes are likely to be open to having a daughter in India. Before analyzing secondary data, I will interview social scientists working on gender to understand how gender attitudes can be measured in a robust manner. Many of them are based in India, for which I am applying to the Mario Einaudi International Travel Grant to interview them in the Summer.
