Project Title:
Design of an environmental governance instrument in a Natural Protected Area through an Alternative Conflict Resolution approach: The case of Oaxaca, Mexico
Project Abstract:
This work combines environmental economics and policy with deliberative planning theory to design a governance instrument for conservation in a national park that hosts a biodiversity hotspot in Oaxaca, Mexico. This research will use the logic of environmental economics to design a governance instrument by which those who benefit from conservation compensate those who pay the costs of conserving the environment. Furthermore, this work will recognize and address the real life conflict between those stakeholders. Using Alternative Conflict Resolution Methods, stakeholders will design this instrument, adapting it to their local interests and expectations and thus improving its governance.
