Project Title:
Investigating the Growth of Urbanization and the Built Environment in the Bronze Age Aegean – A Comparative Study of Palaikastro, Crete and Kalavasos, Cyprus
Project Abstract:
My MA thesis focuses on the development of the urban built environment and the use of space on Minoan Crete, with focus on comparative study at contemporary Aegean sites. The Kalavasos and Maroni Built Environment (KAMBE) project offers a unique opportunity to investigate the impact of architecture on the growth of sociopolitical systems. More specifically, during the profound Late Bronze Age shift from small, isolated settlements to complex, cosmopolitan urban communities. Participation in the KAMBE project would provide essential research for my thesis, and contribute to the creation and refinement of methods of analysis for other ancient built environments during other periods and regions.
