Project Title:
Exploring the Use of Organic Compounds Extracted from Native Plants of the Andean Mountains as Precursors for the Synthesis of Nanomaterials: Furcraea Andina and Drimys winteri Chilenses
Project Abstract:
This international, inter-institutional and multidisciplinary proposal aims at exploring the use of organic compounds extracted from two native plants of the Andean mountains in South America: Furcraea Andina and Drimys winteri Chilenses. The proposal will be a joint effort between Cornell University, The National University of Colombia (UNAL), Industrial University of Santander (UIS) and Universidad Andres Bello of Chile (UNAB). The proposed project will identify, isolate and characterize the chemical activity of flavonoids, terpenes and saponins compounds obtained from the bark and leaves of these plants and will explore their potential use in the green synthesis of nanomaterials. These findings will be used as preliminary data for the submission of large extramural proposals.
