Project Title:
Production task on Jakarta Indonesian and Betawi Malay speakers
Project Abstract:
This project examines the phonology of a new emerging vernacular, namely Jakarta Indonesian. It is spoken in Jakarta, the national capital of Indonesia. This study makes an effort to describe and analyze this emerging language variety as spoken today, and investigate its developments and relationships with other varieties spoken in Jakarta, namely Standard Indonesian and Betawi Malay. I will conduct production task experiment on Jakarta Indonesian and Betawi Malay native speakers in Jakarta, Indonesia. This production task will be conducted to test whether the results from the production task mirror the results from the naturalistic corpora.
