Project Title:
Neural Mechanisms of Relative Clause Processing in Chinese and English
Project Abstract:
The project is an fMRI study of relative clause processing in Chinese and English. Early fMRI study on relative clause processing mostly focused on English and European languages, but no previous study has examined the neural mechanisms of relative clause processing in Chinese. The present project compares brain activations of native Chinese and English speakers when they are processing subject and object relative clauses in their native languages. The fMRI experiment of Chinese relative clause processing will be conducted in the summer of 2016 at Jiangsu Normal University in Xuzhou, China. The Travel Grant will help greatly in eliminating the international airfare and save the limited research funding for conducting experiments.
