Project Title:
PARTICIPATION AND OUTCOMES OF SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT IN MEXICAN BIODIVERSITY HOTSPOTS
Project Abstract:
Forests play a critical role in biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and local livelihoods. The main objective of my research is to identify the factors which influence communities’ decisions to participate in forest management incentive programs in biodiversity hotspots in Mexico, as well as analyze the perceived and observed environmental and socio-economic outcomes of those programs. Using an innovative mixed-method approach, I expect to contribute to a better understanding on how public incentives for sustainable forest management are affecting forests and people in Mexico.
