Project Title:
China/Burma Media Arts Exchange Pilot
Project Abstract:
This project will lay the critical groundwork for launching the China/Burma Media Arts Exchange, which consists of a 6-week film production exchange program for undergraduate and graduate students in China and Burma and ongoing exchange with Chinese and Burmese filmmakers. The seed grant will enable further events and seminars for the Media Arts Laboratory at Cornell University, envisioned as an experimental laboratory for creative work and research. The China/Burma Media Arts Exchange will be an engaged international learning program combining the theory and practice of media production to advance the scope of Cornell University’s international research, multimedia art practice, and education in the key regions of China and Burma and the borderlands between. This effort will build on and strengthen existing connections with media production entities in Beijing and Yangon. The resulting media productions and institutional relationships will translate to greater international dialogue between media practitioners and researchers in Burma, China, and Cornell, as well as a more robust interdisciplinary institutional collaboration between Cornell faculty, students, affiliates, and the Southeast Asia and East Asia programs, as well as the departments of Anthropology and Performing and Media Arts.
