Project Title:
Social-Political Transformation in North Vietnam’s Countryside
Project Abstract:
The research topic proposes a close examination of the North Vietnam land reform campaign and the complexity of its implementation.  It aims to look at how the actual implementation of the campaign affected the factors of governance, property, economy, and livelihood.  To explore those particular issues, I intend to conduct a three-month field research program in northern Vietnam from June to August 2017.  The research methodologies will include archival, library, and interviews. I anticipate devoting approximately six weeks for archival and library research and two weeks for interviews. In general, this proposed project is part of my current Ph.D. research on the social, economic, and political transformations in rural North Vietnam from 1945 to 1960. Hence, a travel grant from the Einaudi Center for International Research will be absolutely indispensable in the progression of my Ph.D. studies for years to come.
