Project Title:
Perceptions of risks associated with climate change and adaptive strategies in the Philippines
Project Abstract:
The grant will support travel to and within the Philippines to organize meetings on climate change and local preparedness, build a research team, identify potential research sites, and begin exploratory research in two coastal communities. We will conduct interviews with government officials, educators, and local residents to assess local perceptions of vulnerabilities and adaptive strategies (underway, planned, and under consideration). Information gained through this preliminary work will eventually be used to design a longer-term research project that will provide a more systematic assessment and suggest strategies for communicating environmental risks related to climate change in a manner that promotes effective adaptation in coastal areas.
