
Valerie Bunce is the Aaron Binenkorb Professor of International Studies and Professor in the Government Department at Cornell University. Her research and teaching interests include comparative democratization, the origins and consequences of imperial decline, inter-ethnic cooperation and conflict, peace-making after internal wars, and the diffusion of democratic change through electoral revolutions in the postcommunist world. The current era is a watershed period for foreign policy as the world adjusts to new post cold war dynamics. Many new challenges are emerging for the global community, from the need to respond to global warming to the challenges posed by terrorism. The Einaudi Center’s Foreign Policy Initiative emerged from the understanding that Cornell needs to contribute to these important debates. Its goals are to maximize the intellectual impact of Cornell’s existing resources in the area of international public affairs, and to enhance the impact of the Einaudi Center’s resources in this area.
