Seed Grant Competition

The Einaudi Center’s biannual seed grant program is designed to advance international studies at Cornell. Tenured and tenure-track Cornell faculty are eligible to apply for these grants, as are Programs and Centers within the university, irrespective of their college or school of origin.

Criteria

The grant’s general objective is to promote research and curriculum development in international studies at Cornell. We are particularly interested in proposals that:

  • Advance research by junior faculty.
  • Request "seed funding" for the preparation of external funding requests;
  • Are thematically related to the Center’s initiatives;
  • Have long-term, discernable benefits to international studies at Cornell;
  • Conform to the highest academic standards.

Amount of Award

Not to exceed $15,000

Application Deadlines

February 15 (awards announced March)
September 15 (awards announced October)

Supported Activities

Grants will support conferences, workshops and virtual networks, research assistance, equipment, meetings with potential funders and collaborators, data collection, and travel. Grants will not provide salary offset or summer salary.

Period of Activity

All funds must be used within one year of award date.

Procedures

Interested faculty should submit a proposal including:

  • A description of background, objectives, activities, work plan, expected outputs, beneficiaries, and impact (not to exceed 2000 words)
  • Plans for pursuing future research and external funding
  • A detailed budget with justification of expenses
  • Curriculum Vitae for principal faculty involved
  • Human Subjects approval, where necessary
