Project Title:
Rethinking Resistance with Forms of "Living": Evidence from Turkey
Project Abstract:
In the face of rising concerns about the erosion of popular sovereignty under neoliberalism, contemporary protests across the world urge scholars of Political Theory to rethink the potential forms, meanings and roles that resistance can assume for democratic politics. My qualitative research project on social mobilization in Turkey aims to engage with conceptual and normative debates in Democratic Theory. TI examine the resistant networks in Istanbul that bring together diverse collectivities with differentiated social/political demands. These collectivities are distinguished by their continuous experimentation with alternative forms of living that remain non-submissive to market rationality.
