There are approximately 1.2 billion youth aged 15-24 globally as of 2015, accounting for one out of every six people (17%) worldwide. There will be 1.3 billion youth by 2030 according to the United Nations. 226 million youth aged 15-24 lived in Africa in 2015 representing nearly 20% of Africa’s population, making up one fifth of the world’s youth population. The share of Africa’s youth in the world is forecasted to increase to 42% by 2030 and is expected to continue to grow throughout the remainder of the 21st century, more than doubling from current levels by 2055.
Africa's youthful population puts forth an opportunity for rapid economic growth. Such population can be a positive force for development when given the knowledge they need to move forward.
