Frederick R. McDonald

Global Public Voices Fellow
Frederick R. McDonald is an award-winning painter, photographer, and poet. He is a member of the Fort McKay First Nation, Alberta, Canada. As a 2020–21 Global Public Voices fellow, he is collaborating with Karim-Aly Seleh Kassam.
McDonald's art has been exhibited or is part of the permanent collection at museums and galleries across North America, including the Indigenous Art Centre, the Glenbow Museum, the Red Deer Museum, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Passionate about environmental justice and indigenous rights, Fred has served his community as the coordinator for the annual Fort McKay Treaty Days celebration and the director of the Athabasca Tribal Council Regional Gathering in 2006.
