Put your knowledge on peace studies into practice with a research internship in Germany this summer. 

Emerging Technologies and Modern Warfare – Germany 

Host Organization: Peace Research Institute Frankfurt

The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) is one of Europe’s leading peace research institutes and analyzes the causes of international and intrastate conflicts to look for solutions through research that influences policymaking, media, and society. 

As an intern for PRIF, you'll receive hands-on research experience in emerging technologies in the military sector and have the freedom to research a topic of your choice that will result in a 15–20 page paper. You'll also conduct literature reviews, summarize texts, and participate in PRIF events.

Funding

The selected intern will receive a $3,000 stipend, which will be disbursed through their bursar account. 

Eligibility

To apply, you must be:

  • A rising sophomore, junior, or senior at Cornell.
  • In good standing academically with a cumulative 3.0 GPA minimum and have no unresolved disciplinary charges or sanctions.
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at the time of the internship.

Requirements

Students must be able to commit to working full time for the duration of the internship, which runs from June 1, 2023 to August 15, 2023. Interns are not permitted to hold other full-time jobs. Selected interns must participate fully in pre-departure and post-internship sessions, as well as complete a mid-internship survey and a concluding reflection and evaluation survey.

Basic knowledge of IR-theory and social sciences methodology is expected. Knowledge of basic German is helpful, but not required.
