Spend your summer as an intern supporting the Self Employed Women's Association, a movement to empower women working in the informal economy.

Building Resilient Women Entrepreneurs Program – India

Host Organization: SEWA Bharat

The Building Resilient Women Entrepreneurs program is a large-scale project aimed at advancing the rights and capacities of women-owned social enterprises and increasing their access to finance, infrastructure, markets, assets, and digital literacy. The program is especially focused on supporting small-scale, women-owned enterprises, such as home-based workers, street vendors, domestic workers, artisans, and agri-farmers, as well as collective social enterprises by women in different sectors such as food production, garments, and finance.

In India, informality is the prevalent way of life as 45 percent of the population live in informal settlements. Impact of poor infrastructure services are such that a worker's additional time is spent in seeking services, additional cost is born through the purchase of services, increased vulnerability to health risk due to poor quality and improper service provisioning and safety is compromised due to inadequate services.
