We invite students and staff to share essays, poetry, and art that answers this question. View last year's winners, and see how their work shows the connections between racism, dispossession, and migration in interdisciplinary, innovative, and impactful ways.

Eligibility

The competition is open to currently enrolled students at any level and staff members. 

Amount

Winning submissions will receive a cash prize and be published on our website. 

How to Apply

Complete the submission form(link is external) by February 28, 2025. 

Requirements

Submission must be uploaded in a PDF format. Please use the project as the file name. Do not use your name as the file name. Submission limited to one person and NetID.

Program Manager

Colin Peterson is the program manager for the Southeast Asia Program (SEAP). He oversees SEAP’s administrative operations and is responsible for the overall implementation and coordination of the program’s financial, administrative, academic, and human resource activities.

Program Manager

Rashmi Kanthi is the program manager for the Migrations Program. She brings over seven years of experience with Logistimo India, Safe Harvest, and Digital Green, specializing in program management, leadership, strategic partnerships, grants, budget management, and quality assurance. She is proficient in English, Kannada, and Hindi, and is passionate about birdwatching, climate-resilient solutions, and sustainability. She is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, and enjoys engaging in thought-provoking conversations while learning about different cultures.

Aidan Kelly

Administrative Assistant

Aidan Kelly is the administrative assistant for the Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Rhetoric from Binghamton University. She first came to Cornell in May 2018 as a program assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Luke Urbain

Program Manager

Luke Urbain (they/them, él/ellx) received their Ph.D. from UW-Madison, where they focused on art, literature, and visual culture of Cuba and the Cuban diaspora and were an affiliated graduate student in the Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies Program. Urbain has extensive experience supporting students as a Spanish, writing, and ESL instructor.

Margaret Price coordinates the Dissertation Proposal Development Program and Bhatia Global PhD Awards for graduate students. She also manages the Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research Program and Global Scholars for undergraduate students.
