Research Interest: Saomai is interested in US empire and militarism, Third World struggles and imaginations, and intergenerational refugee repertoires of storytelling as competing but interconnected projects of knowledge production.

Saomai (they/she) is invested in themes of race and empire, critical and community-based methodologies, and imaginations of liberatory futures. They are particularly interested in exploring U.S. militarism and the war in Vietnam as a site of contact and inspiration for transnational activism, Third World solidarities, and (re)imagining a genealogy of liberatory Vietnamese American politics.
