Community College Internationalization

Faculty and staff of any discipline at two-year institutions in Upstate New York can prepare students to become global-minded citizens, collaborating with Cornell’s area studies programs and the South Asia Center at Syracuse University. 

Each year we offer the competitive, funded Community College Internationalization Fellows Program. Up to ten community college educators study and explore projects that engage with EuropeLatin America and the CaribbeanSouth AsiaSoutheast Asia, and/or sub-Saharan Africa

Projects may include a new course, a new unit for an existing course, or a service-learning component to an existing course that encourages the exchange of diverse perspectives. Faculty, adjunct faculty, lecturers, instructors, and librarians are welcome to apply.

How to Apply

Create a project proposal that includes a cover page, CV, and project description. Please email your proposal materials as attached PDF or Word document files.  

Cover Page

Please include the following: 

  • Your name and contact information 
  • Title of your project 
  • Summary of the project and its purpose, including whether your project is individual or collaborative 
  • Areas and/or countries of focus 
  • One to four global learning outcomes 

Project Description (1–2 pages)

Please include the following: 

  • Timeline and schedule for project development 
  • Description of how you will implement your project (required) 
  • Description of how your students will participate during development (optional) 
  • List of what you need to develop your project and how you anticipate working with the area studies program 
  • Plan for how you will present or share what you develop 
  • Plan for how you might present the work your students undertake (if relevant) 

Implementation Process

You will have one year to implement your project, with the possibility of extending to a second year if the project needs further development. During the first year, our outreach program manager will give you administrative support.
