Project Title:
Dragons in the west: localization strategies of Chinese Multinationals in developed countries
Project Abstract:
I am applying for the Einaudi Travel Grant to support my summer field work in China, which is part of my PhD dissertation on globalization of Chinese multinationals (MNCs). My dissertation examines the localization strategies that Chinese MNCs adopt to penetrate developed markets and explores how characteristics of parent firms and home country institutions promote or restrict the adoption of these strategies. During the summer of 2017, I will conduct interviews with company managers and government officers and distribute surveys among global headquarters of Chinese multinationals. The field work in China will enhance my understanding of the influence from parent firms and home country institutions and the process through which these external stakeholders exert their impact. The research in China is an important part of my dissertation project.
