Project Title:
Granular Characterization of HIV and Chronic Disease in Rural South India
Project Abstract:
The convergence of the HIV/AIDS and chronic disease epidemics poses a great public health threat. Longer life expectancy and increasing access to appropriate anti-retroviral treatment allow alterations in metabolism to manifest as complications in co-infection and an increased burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). To accelerate the public health response, the WHO has posed a call for “granular” data to allow for monitoring and focused delivery of services to the populations at highest risk. In response, we propose a longitudinal study in people living with HIV (PLHIV) in rural South India, a population for whom data is currently scarce.
