K.T. Wong
Post-Doctoral Associate
K. T. Wong is a Postdoctoral Associate of interactive media co-hosted by the Department of Asian Studies Department and the Department of Music Department. His current research focuses on video games and animation through the lens of political economy within East and Southeast Asian contexts. Wong recently obtained his Ph.D. in Visual Studies from the University of California, Irvine. He is currently working on a book project about the transformation of gaming cultures in Southeast Asia between the 1990s and 2010s initiated by the formalization and nationalization of the video game economy which intensified in the region during that period. He has published journal articles related to this project, including “The Data-Driven Myth and the Deceptive Futurity of ‘the World’s Fastest Growing Games Region’: Selling the Southeast Asian Games Market via Game Analytics” in Games and Culture, and “Globalization and Heterogeneity: Locating the Malaysian Indie Game Production Culture” forthcoming in Media Industries. In addition, he has published articles about Japanese games and anime in The Journal of Cinema and Media Studies and The Velvet Light Trap.
