Culture Kits

Make your teaching about Southeast Asia tangible and real to your students. Check out a trunk full of fascinating objects, maps, outfits, cooking implements, picture books, music, posters, puppets and other cultural artifacts from a specific Southeast Asian country.

You can set up your own classroom or school display or use the objects as hands-on props when teaching. We will work with you to select items, including books and videos/DVDs, most appropriate for your lesson plans or class project. We can ship books and DVDs, but not culture kits at this time. We currently offer culture kits from the following countries:

  • Burma/Myanmar kit
  • Cambodia kit
  • Indonesian kit
  • Laos kit
  • Malaysia and Singapore kit
  • Pan SEAsia kit
  • Philippines kit
  • Thailand kit
  • Vietnam kit

Please visit the Lending Library page for information on how to arrange a loan.

Educational Films

We are pleased to offer two short documentary films on Vietnam and Vietnamese culture.

These engaging films with accompanying discussion guides are intended for use in middle school, high school, and undergraduate classrooms. Students who view them will benefit by learning about diverse communities and cultures in Vietnam. They will look at Vietnam and the controversies around U.S./Vietnam relations from multiple perspectives and synthesize conflicting views, broaden their understanding of Vietnam, and reflect critically on their own assumptions about Vietnam.

Vietnam's Food Systems: This film explores Vietnam’s historical cuisine, agricultural landscape, and climate challenges. It is intended to be used with the downloadable discussion guide in middle school, high school, and undergraduate classrooms.

Vietnam: A Changing Nation: This film explores Vietnam’s rising economy, modern society, and religious traditions. It is intended to be used with the downloadable discussion guide in middle school, high school, and undergraduate classrooms.
